Zaheer, who won the 2011 ODI World Cup under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has included many surprising names in it.

Zaheer had made a significant contribution in the World Cup victory and took 21 wickets in 9 matches. He has not given place to India's stormy bowler Jaspreet Bumrah in the list of top-5 bowlers.

Zaheer chose these legends

Zaheer dismissed 282 batsmen in 200 ODIs played between October 2000 and August 2012. He has included Pakistan's Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Australia's Glenn McGrath, Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas and South Africa's Dale Steyn in his list of top five ODI bowlers. He has not included any Indian fast bowler in the list.

Wasim Akram was kept at the forefront

Speaking about these players on the Cricbuzz show, Zaheer said, "There were a lot of international bowlers around me who were really making a good impact.

Wasim Akram is obviously one of the names who was impressive in this format. He had variety and yorkers. He was amazing in round the wicket and over the wicket. His slow balls were also dangerous.

He had a lot of impact in this format." Akram played 356 matches for Pakistan and took 502 wickets. He was the first bowler to cross the 500-wicket mark in ODI history.

Glenn McGrath praised a lot

Zaheer further said, "Another name I really looked up to was Glenn McGrath. With the accuracy that he had, the simplicity in the action and that extra bounce and effect with the new ball, this is something that he had in all formats throughout his career." Glenn McGrath took 381 wickets in 250 ODIs.

Advice given to learn from Waqar

After mentioning McGrath, Zaheer said, "Let's talk about Waqar Younis. You talk about strike rate; you talk about impact. If you look at his stats as well (416 wickets in 262 ODIs), he is right up there. Especially the 13 fifers (5 or more wickets in a match) he has taken in his entire career in ODIs.

His impact was fantastic. He was not afraid to give runs. This is the mindset that perhaps modern-era bowlers should also have."

Vaas and Stan's effect

Speaking about Sri Lanka's Vaas and Steyn, Zaheer said, "Chaminda Vaas is another bowler who I think should be up there. If you look, his impact with the new ball was enormous.

It was important to have that kind of accuracy in subcontinental conditions and keep things simple. He was very impressive in giving control with consistency.

Dale Steyn is someone we all know that his fast outswingers have always had an impact. He used to go through that crease very fast and his impact remained throughout."
